Hey, I’m Michael

I am Michael Henry, the builder behind Digital Javelina. For two decades I worked as a physician-scientist in high-stakes medicine and drug development, where a small mistake has real consequences and every decision has to survive hard scrutiny. I build software the same way. Documented, tested, and yours to keep, not a demo that dies in week two.

Most people come to me one of two ways. Either you know exactly what you want built, or you have a problem eating your time and no idea what the fix looks like. Both are fine. Bring the problem and we’ll work out what’s worth building.

Take the busywork off your plate

I build automations and AI agents that do real work: processing documents, wiring your tools together, drafting research and summaries, and handling customer-facing tasks. If a chunk of your week is repetitive, it can probably run without you, including voice agents that answer the phone and support lines.

For the technically curious: Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex daily, n8n to connect systems, custom MCP servers, and local models with Ollama when your data has to stay in-house.

The app or tool you can’t buy

When your business does something specific and nothing off the shelf fits, I build the thing that does. Native iOS apps, web apps, and internal tools, built to ship and get used. I have shipped RSS services, an audiobook generator, journaling tools, and iOS apps, most of them open source.

A website you actually own

Custom WordPress sites built from scratch, without bloated page builders. This site runs on a theme I wrote and maintain myself, so the work is right in front of you.

Own your stack instead of renting it

For teams that would rather run their own systems than pay every month for someone else’s: secure, self-hosted services on hardware you control, including the infrastructure behind voice AI agents. I run my own homelab the same way, so I am not learning on your budget.

For the technically curious: Docker, Proxmox, Tailscale mesh networking, and Caddy reverse proxies.

How I work

Build it, break it a few times, then document it so it keeps working after I hand it over. I learn systems by building them, I write about what I learn on this blog, and I do not ship anything I would not run myself.
