This Privacy Policy explains how Digital Javelina (“Digital Javelina”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you visit digitaljavelina.com (the “Site”). Digital Javelina is a personal technology blog operated by Michael Henry.
Our approach is to collect as little as possible. We do not use advertising networks, sell your data, or build advertising profiles about you. To understand how the Site is used, we rely on a single, privacy-respecting analytics service, described in the Analytics section below.
Information we collect
Comments
If you leave a comment, we collect the information shown in the comment form (your name, email address, and optional website), along with your IP address and browser user-agent string to help with spam detection. Your email address is not displayed publicly. If you use an email associated with the Gravatar service, your profile picture may be shown next to your comment; Gravatar’s own privacy policy applies to that service.
Messages you send us
If you email us at hello@digitaljavelina.com, we receive your email address and the contents of your message, and we keep them so we can respond.
Server logs
The Site is hosted by WP Engine. Like virtually all web hosts, WP Engine automatically records standard server log data, including IP addresses, browser type, referring pages, and the date and time of requests. This information is used to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Site.
Cookies and local storage
If you leave a comment, WordPress may set cookies to remember your name, email, and website so you do not have to re-enter them next time. If you sign in to the Site as an administrator, WordPress sets session cookies. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
The Site remembers your light or dark appearance preference using your browser’s local storage. That value stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Embedded content from other sites
Articles may include embedded content, such as videos or code examples. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with that content under their own policies.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the Site is used, for example page views, referring sites, and general visitor counts. Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-focused: it does not use cookies, does not store any client-side state such as local storage, and does not collect or sell personal data or build a profile of individual visitors. It does not track you across other websites. Aggregated, non-identifying measurement data is processed by Cloudflare on our behalf; see Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for details. Because no cookies or personal identifiers are used, there is nothing to opt out of and no cookie-consent banner is required.

How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share information only with our hosting provider (WP Engine) to the extent needed to run the Site, and where required to comply with the law or to protect our rights.
Data retention
Approved comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies can be recognized and displayed. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your request.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you, including comments you have left. To make a request, email hello@digitaljavelina.com. We may need to retain certain information for legal or security reasons.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above.
