These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of digitaljavelina.com (the “Site”), a personal technology blog operated by Michael Henry, and of the Decoder Ring apps described below. By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

The content is informational

The Site publishes articles, tutorials, and opinions about technology, software development, and related topics. This content is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not medical, legal, financial, security, or other professional advice. Technical instructions, code, and configurations may become outdated or may not fit your specific environment.

You are responsible for evaluating and testing anything you choose to act on, particularly commands, scripts, and security-related steps. You use the information on this Site at your own risk.

The Decoder Ring apps

These Terms also cover the Decoder Ring apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, including the Decode share extension, the Safari extension, and the Services menu entry (together, the “Apps”). By downloading or using the Apps, you agree to these Terms.

Decoder Ring explains what text says and means. It never tells you what to do about it. The plain-language decodes are written by Apple’s on-device AI or Apple’s Private Cloud Compute from the text you give it, and they may be incomplete or wrong. They are provided for general educational purposes only and are not legal, financial, tax, medical, or any other professional advice. Decoder Ring never tells you what to reply, whether to sign, pay, or agree, or what a document means for your particular situation. For any decision that matters, talk to the right licensed professional. You are responsible for what you decide to do with a decode.

The Apps are free to download and include one free decode. Unlimited decoding is a single one-time in-app purchase, with no subscription and no account. Apple handles the purchase, any restore, and any refund through your Apple Account; we never see or store your payment details. Your use of the Apps is also subject to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which governs the license Apple grants you to the Apps.

How the Apps handle your text, the photos and files you open, and the anonymous feedback you can send is described in the Decoder Ring privacy policy. In short: the text you decode is processed only by Apple’s on-device or Private Cloud Compute systems, is never sent to us, and is never stored by us.

The disclaimer of warranties and the limitation of liability below apply to the Apps and to every decode they produce, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Where Apple’s End User License Agreement gives you rights that these Terms cannot limit, those rights are unaffected.

Intellectual property

Unless otherwise noted, the articles, text, and images on the Site are the property of Digital Javelina, LLC and are protected by copyright. You may quote short excerpts with attribution and a link back to the original article. Code samples may be used freely in your own projects. Republishing entire articles without prior written permission is not permitted.

Comments and conduct

When you submit a comment, you are responsible for its content. You agree not to post material that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, abusive, or spam. We may moderate, edit, or remove any comment, and may block contributors, at our discretion and without notice. By submitting a comment, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display and store it in connection with the Site.

Third-party links

The Site may link to or embed third-party websites and content. We do not control and are not responsible for those external sites or their content, and a link does not imply endorsement.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Digital Javelina, LLC and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or systems, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Site or its content.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above.
